Our Seagate Barracuda experienced a failure causing the click of death and also not being recognized by BIOS. Being an engineer I knew this was a mechanical failure of some sorts and though I’ve done some simple recoveries on my own in the past, I was wise enough to realized that this was beyond my abilities. I searched for a local provider in the NYC area and found a few options, but found most to be a bit sketchy for one reason or another, so after much due diligence I decided to take my drive to salvagedata’s downtown office for an evaluation. After dropping off the drive, I received a call the next day and was provided me with a recovery quote of $ 1379.00 for a 2 week economy service. I knew it wasn’t going to be cheap, so I agreed and provided payment information to proceed. I was told that my case manager William contact or email me when the recovery is completed in 12 – 14 days, but oddly enough 8 days later I received an email to saying “ the recovery process had complete successfully and that data from the partitions I specified has been successfully reconverted”. William also followed up with a phone call to ask if I would like to purchase or provide my own a USB hard drive for them to put the data. Since their prices were cheaper about $20 cheaper than what I could get the drive for myself I agreed to be charged an additional $120 for a 500GB Western Digital Passport. The next day my drive was shipped out and about 2 days later I received my USB hard drive with 100% of my files recovered. In conclusion, SalvageData actually does what it says: they salvage and recover data. The case manager was friendly and professional. The staff and technicians were extremely competent (as they saved my data.) I’ve learned to backup my files and hope never to have a need for them again, but If the data is important I surely recommend these guys over the others.

After sending my drive to both a local shop and another data recovery outfit here in New York who both failed to recover anything I was referred to salvagedata by a friend who had used their services in the past. Since this would have been my 3rd try I was skeptical of any possibilities for a recovery, but I decided to give it one last try before giving up all hope. To my surprise 2 days after salvagedata received my drive I got a call letting me know that the data could be recovered. The price was a bit more than I expected (even with my western digital) however my research proved their pricing to be about industry average for capable cleanroom recovery labs of this type. Since I opted for their economy service I was told my recovery would take another 7 days, but much to my surprise I received a call 4 days later letting me know my recovery was completed ahead of schedule and already on its way. I received my data on a USB hard drive and verified the file the next morning. Salvagedata is a bit costly, but I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of professional data recovery services.
