Dealing with this company was a nightmare from the beginning. I read several questionable reviews about this company but I decided to take a chance anyway because I didn't know any better. My drive's power failed - it wouldn't even run at all like there was a power problem. I sent them the drive and paid for the 5 days expedite for $100 (but strangely it came to $105.93). Why should I pay taxes on an expedite fee?? Anyway, after I paid to ship my drive to them, they said it would be no problem getting the data off my drive and they quoted me $1398.00 along with an additional $138.03 for another hard drive to put all my info on, assuming they could get some info off it. I had to pay $426.93 up front though because they said they needed to buy parts for it. This price in non-refundable so you don't get this money back even if they don't get your info back. They initally said the price will be between $300 and $1500. So a few days went by and I didn't hear anything, so I called and left a message because I could never get ahold of Tyler Harris (the guy assigned to me). About 30 mins later he sent me an email with an update saying they were still working on it. He constantly said he would call me or email me then he never did! Another few days went by, no calls or email. I called and left another message, he sent another email 1 hour later saying he was sorry, but they were having trouble because there was so much damage to the head. How could there be so much damage to the heads when the drive was powered off, then just wouldn't power back on?? The heads retract when the drive is powered down! So 2 weeks after I sent it in, they said they had to send it to Canada to get some "guru" up there to fix it. I asked about a refund on my $105.93 one week "expedite" fee and of course they said no, that they "tried" to get it out in 5 days but it took longer because the drive was so damaged! What a joke. The drive worked perfectly the last time it worked before it wouldn't power back up - if no power could move the heads from their retracted position, how could this be? So needless to say, they weren't able to get the data off my drive. I then asked to get my $138.03 back that I paid for the new hard drive that I now wouldn't need. They said no problem. 2 weeks went by and nothing. I called again and they said they would issue the refund immediately. About a week later I received a box in the mail. I opened it to find it was a new hard drive. I called them again and they said there was a mistake and if I shipped the drive back, they would refund my money. So because I opened the box, I had to pay to ship it back out of my own pocket: $15.23 back to Canada (the return shipping address). So about another week later I get an email saying they are refunding $104.03. I called and asked why and they said customs charged them $34.00 and that I should have sent the package to Ohio! What the hell are they talking about?? OHIO?? I've been dealing with a company in New York and the return address on the box was: Data Recovery Corp. - that's their company! I sent it to the return address on the box! So now I've been calling every day leaving messges for Ben, the manager who politely told me I'm screwed because they aren't refunding me the rest of my money, even though it was THEIR fault that I got that stupid drive in the first place, instead of my refund! I'm trying to get in touch with his boss but I doubt that will happen since they are ignoring my calls now. Dealing with this company has been a complete nightmare. I HIGHLY advise anyone NOT to deal with this company. I filed a complaint with the BBB. These people are scum bags.
